Read more. It’s a widely known fact that some of the most successful people read… a lot! Ask people on social media for ‘must reads’, look up lists of the best books and get going. These days, you don’t even have to pick up a book, you can download an audiobook and listen while you drive around. Reading has never been easier!
Rest more. Getting enough sleep means that you’ll be energized and ready for the day (and year) ahead!
Set goals. Set ONE big goal for the year. Break that goal down into monthly, weekly, and daily tasks to get you there. When it’s a small task (which will get you to your ultimate win) it’s much less intimidating.
Start your day with a positive quote. One small step for your energy, one large leap for your entire day. There’s plenty of inspiring quote accounts on Twitter and on Instagram. Follow and enjoy.
Do something for yourself monthly. Plan a day or evening to do something that makes you feel good and gives you a jolt of ‘happy’ (ie. pedicure, a night out, a glass of wine while taking a relaxing bath). When I say ‘plan’ I mean book it in your calendar and stick to it.
Follow your passion(s). Doing what you love makes your heart happy. If you’re not sure what your passions are, dig around. Attend an art class, book some ballroom dancing lessons or learn Spanish. The possibilities are endless. Whatever suits your fancy… just be sure to make it something you love!
Send out thank you cards monthly. The key here is to be thoughtful and genuine. In a one month span, there’s definitely one person in your life whose worthy of receiving a heartfelt thank you. People rarely get snail mail so it’s an amazing feeling to open up a tangible thank you. The bonus: sending it out will make you feel good too!
Get a gratitude journal. At the end of the day, take the time to write down the things that made you happy. I’ve been doing this for about 8 years now and my favorite thing to do is to look back at past journals. They honestly make me smile!
Say yes more. OK… I don’t mean you should say ‘yes’ more to requests that take up your time or your energy. I mean say ‘yes’ more to opportunities (you know, the things that intrigue and interest you). You never know where it might lead!
Get out more. If that means getting outdoors, visiting family and friends or going to an art show. Look at your local paper, see what’s happening and get out there and live life!
