Meet Tessa Anderson, owner of Plan A York, and former Recruitment Manager at Plan A Sudbury.
We asked her a few questions about her experience with bringing our long term care staffing strategy to the York region. Check out her responses below!
1. If you could give one piece of advice to a new or established Plan A, what would it be?
If I could give one piece of advice to a new Plan A franchise owner it would be to be patient and trust the process. Being a new franchisee is difficult because you see how much further ahead everyone else is in terms of developing and establishing their business, but you have to remember that everyone started in the exact same position as you. Take a moment to breath and appreciate the quietness because it won’t be like that forever!
2. What qualities do you believe a franchise owner needs to be successful?
One of the main qualities that a franchise owner needs in order to be successful is excellent interpersonal skills. Of course there are others, but I strongly believe that having excellent interpersonal skills should be at the top of the list. Not a day goes by where I’m not on the phone or responding to emails or meeting with applicants and partners face-to-face. Being able to connect and hold conversations with others, whether they be complete strangers or close friends, isn’t something that everyone can do, but in this business it’s a must.
3. What was the lightbulb moment like? That moment you thought – I need to be part of this vision?
After working for Plan A Sudbury for almost two years, my family and I had to move to Newmarket unexpectedly. After the move I had no idea what I was going to do for work. Being a new mom, I wanted to find a position that would allow me to be at home with my family as much as possible, with flexible hours and a liveable income. And then it hit me – there isn’t a Plan A franchise in this area! I thought to myself, “This is it! This is the dream job I’ve been hoping for.” I had knowledge of the business operations, I had experience as a recruiter, and I understood and believed in the vision and the mission. When the opportunity presented itself I knew there was no way that I could say no.
